Support staff are being exploited because of reforms designed to reduce the workload of teachers, a teachers' union conference has warned.
A motion passed at the ATL conference says the Workload Agreement improved teachers' work-life balance. But the conference "deplored" the resulting exploitation experienced by support staff.
The motion called on the union's leadership to lobby for the forthcoming school support staff negotiating body to make sure "all who are involved in the direct day-to-day teaching of children are treated fairly", and reward and develop the professionalism of support staff.

Teachers are now getting opportunities to do there PPA at home, which means they are only working a four and a half day week. This happens in our school it has caused alot of resentment and makes the teaching assistant feel very under valued. What about our work life balance? It should be compulsory for all schools to provide an area and a computer for teachers to do this in school. My son is a teacher and does not get this 'perk' in his school, which really does seem unfair. My question is this how many actually do their planning in this designated time? I feel teaching assistants are now being exploited.
